Hear from team members at different stages of their careers
I’ve worked at Botham Accounting for the majority of my career, completing my ACA qualification with the firm, progressing from a junior member of the team to my current role as a Client Portfolio Manager. Throughout that time I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to work on several interesting projects outside of my day to day role to help add value to the business and our clients. These include organising our efforts to help clients obtain Government support through the Covid pandemic and managing the transition of clients through Making Tax Digital for VAT.
The part of my role I love the most is my responsibility for our Graduate Recruitment Programme, which we work hard to strengthen every year, while leading the training and development of our ACA trainees. It’s been incredibly rewarding to support members of the team as they grow and develop into talented accountants over the past few years, seeing graduates I recruited progress into management roles themselves is a real highlight of the job.
Outside of work I try to do my part for charity. I love nature and wildlife and at weekends I do voluntary conservation work for the RSPB at Budby South Forest Nature Reserve, which is the largest area of historic heathland in the Midlands.
Having joined Botham Accounting as an ACA Trainee in September 2023, I quickly settled in due to recently graduating from Nottingham Trent University with an Accounting & Finance degree. The first thing I noticed was how welcoming and friendly everyone is at Botham, having felt looked after from the moment I stepped through the door.
The priority at Botham is learning and training, which is delivered at all levels from managers to mentors, whom aim to provide you with the necessary skills and exposure to deliver high quality accounting services. It is also really useful that there are multiple ACA trainees here to direct any questions on studies or support with general processes. Equally, Botham is a really social working environment with organised events happening almost every month which has made it incredibly easy to get to know everyone. The work is both challenging and varied due to the diverse range of clients we have, which has encouraged my development over my first year here. I look forward to continuing my ACA qualification as part of the fantastic team at Botham.
I joined Botham Accounting in September 2023 after completing a degree in Mathematics at Nottingham Trent University. I am a Trainee Tax Adviser am studying towards to my ATT qualification to become a fully qualified Tax Adviser.
I’ve been here just over a year now, and even by the end of my first month I felt a big part of the team, thanks to how welcoming everyone is here. It’s been incredibly easy to settle in due to all the support and help everyone is willing to give. It’s also a really friendly environment to come into and everyone makes you feel at home from day one.
I really enjoying the work and the range of different tasks I’m given, and working with a variety of people is really interesting and helping me learn as I get to see different bits of what everyone does which helps to see what areas I enjoy most and where I could see myself going forward. I’m looking forward to advancing my knowledge in Tax and becoming a more integral member of the Tax team as I work closer towards my qualification and gain more experience. I’m also hoping as I finish my ATT to move on to the CTA pathway and qualify as a Chartered Tax Adviser.
